Ghana Nurses and Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has denied
reports saying student nurses and midwives should reject the
GH₵150 monthly allowance promised by the government.
A statement signed by the body's President, Akazee Godwin
Asabire described the report as untrue and has urged Ghanaians to be
wary of such claims.
“GNMTA, therefore, wants to distance itself from such a political
statement and admonish all Trainee Nurses and Midwives to stay calm and
Resolute as GNMTA negotiates with the Ministry and Relevant stakeholders
to get our issues resolved,” he said.
Facebook on Friday was flooded with news of
Trainee Nurses and Midwives rejecting an offer of GH₵150 given by the
government for their monthly allowance.
The message comes barely 24 hours after the Health Ministry announced
on Thursday that it plans to pay at least over 34,000 trainee nurses
and midwives in the country Gh₵150 a month after the allowance was scrapped by the government due to lack of funds.
